The Will To Defy is a gripping story filled with intrigue, it is a psychological tale that will send chills up and down your spine. Ken Myler draws you into the story with vivid accounts and detail.

Ben Pearce is a husband, a father, and a broker In New York who is thrown into a nightmare in this suspense/thriller. He is woven into a whirl of trying to prevent his own demise, when the daughter of an underworld mobster is accidentally killed. The underworld boss, Victor Draeken is out for revenge and Ben Pearce is set on a quest to keep his family safe as well as himself. Ben is faced with extraordinary experiences turning his life from a peaceful one into survival from a father's revenge. Ben even goes as far as to start planning his own funeral, but stumbles upon a one page document that may keep Victor Draeken at bay out of fear. So Ben decides to put a plan into motion using this one page document, but as with most plans things become complicated.

Ken Myler has developed a plot that will keep the reader on the edge of your seat. The story contains twist and turns, and just when you think you have it figured out, Wrong, he takes you in a different direction to keep you on the edge.

This is a definite page turner and demands to be finished, I would recommend starting it on the weekend as you will want to finish this in one weekend. The Will To Defy definitely earns 5 stars and is a Must read!

According to the back of the book, "The Will to Defy" promised to be a suspense story that would keep me engrossed from beginning to end. That statement wasn't far off the mark really. The story tosses in so many twists and turns that you're constantly shaking your head in wonder. "I didn't see that one coming," actually came out of my mouth at one point.

Here's a synopsis of the story: Ben, a young, successful family man, is on his way home from work one night when a terrible accident occurs. He strikes and kills a young girl on a bicycle. As if he doesn't feel terrible enough, it turns out that the father of this young girl is one of the most feared criminals out there. Victor Draken, the girl's father quickly promises Ben that he will live to regret his actions..in so many words, Draken promises to kill Ben.

With mind spinning, Ben is forced to concoct a plan that will save his own life. From here, we go along for the ride. Ben's plan is original, and is directly responsible for the twists and turns that follow from here on out.

I was hooked from the beginning..the story is different from most of the books I read, and I enjoyed just getting lost in it. I want to give the author some credit though..because not only is this a mystery/suspense, but this book deals with a whole plethora of human emotion as well, and even brought tears to my eyes a few times. Myler is not just a mystery writer, he has a command over the language that will pull you in and leave the story with you even after you're finished.

Ken Myler's book "The Will To Defy" is a classic page-turner. An ordinary man is thrust into some extraordinary experiences in this tightly woven suspense/thriller. After a tragic accident takes the life of a powerful mobster's young daughter, the peaceful life of one man and his family becomes a desperate attempt to keep their own world from falling apart. Myler has woven the plot around a set of circumstances that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat wondering how much pressure one man can deal with in his quest to keep himself and his family safe from the consequences of a father's revenge. Psychological suspense at its' most chilling. Highly recommended reading!

At first, I was apprehensive on reading a thriller, I'm not a big fan and I was expecting the plot to be something akin to a MOW (Movie of the Week) on your basic cable channel. I was wrong. "The Will to Defy" not only had me hooked, but also had well-drawn characters with heart, soul, flaws and conscience. It's recommended to hard-core-thriller fans and non-fans alike.

The book's main character- Ben Pearce- an everyman of sorts--broker, father, husband-is the Picture of Perfection. It doesn't take long for this everyman to be thrown into a nightmare. How he tries to wake from it is something you'd never expect. Paul Schrader's classic line in `Taxi Driver' comes to mind: "The days move along with regularity...one day indistinguishable from the next, a long continuous chain, then suddenly - there is a change."

Ken Myler's exciting first effort breezes along. I could not help but wonder what the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, would do with this story. It is the tale of an ordinary man thrown into a sea of extraordinary circumstances. The reader is kept on the edge of his seat throughout, trying to figure out how the protaganist will deal with the next set of hurdles he must face. A must read.

When I finished the last page, all I could say was "WOW"!!! It leaves one satisfied. I could not put this book down. As soon as I thought I had it figured out, I was spun around in a new direction. The chracters are well devoloped and I missed them after I finished the book. Ken Myler has a writing style that keeps the story exciting and moving forward. I couldn't wait to turn the page! I hate to write about the story because I would hate to give anything away. It was a pleasure to read! Look for the first chapter at [...] I look forward to more writings by him!
